culturekitchen is a community blog committed to providing a platform to political activists and cultural creatives. Our mission is to explore socially libertarian and politically progressive solutions to the issues of everyday life in the United States by focusing on arts, culture, entertainment, life, media, politics, sex, and technology.
As fervent advocates of free speech, we welcome people from different political persuasions and countries to participate in our community. With that in mind, we want to remind lawyers and wannabes that this being a community blog, the following policies should be consider as potentially expansive and mutable agreements.
We will announce any changes to our policies, but please keep in mind, this is more of a public square than a magazine or newspaper. As the community grows and new challenges appear, the guidelines and agreements on the site will change as well.

Most of the time posts are discussed prior to publishing. Sometimes they are copy edited. But we rarely edit for content unless the writer asks for it.
Blog posting is very different than essay or article writing. Blogs are ideas and discussions in process. Blog posts are not necessarily finished products and for that reason they may contain errors, glitches or inaccuracies.
It may be text but consider a blog closer to speaking than publishing.
We do not condone censorship although understand why a person would choose to censor themselves. But deleting content as a form of censorship is not part of our blogging practice.
I want to make this very clear. There will come a time when someone will cry defamation, libel or plagiarism. At such point we will deal with the situation accordingly. But there is something to be said about deleted content on the web. It is the ultimate desecration of our democratic freedoms. For that matter:
In the event a post becomes the focal point of a dispute; we will alter the post to reflect the dispute's outcome --but we will not delete the post, story, image, podcast, or article in question.
culturekitchen is a community blog aimed at cultural creatives who believe progressive activism starts in the kitchen, the bedroom, the home, the wallet. It is open for all who believe the decline of progressive and libertarian values have set us back as a democratic nation.
Anybody can join and participate at different levels in our community. Everybody is warned that the publishers and editors skew left of most liberals; yet actually encourage conservatives and right-wingers of all kind to debate us on the issues.

I was asked why do people have to register to participate in the site. At culturekitchen, you have always had to register in order to leave comments. With the old blogging software though, there was no commitment established between anything other than a name, a sometimes fake email and my light moderating of comments.
In communities, even anonymous members have an identity that sets them apart from other anonymous users. We do not demand full disclosure of your personal information, but we need at least a basic level of commitment for your participation in the site and that involves registering.
At culturekitchen, you may stay anonymous to the community but, as part of our editorial policy, to become a contributor, you have to publish pseudonymously. In other words, the publisher and editors need to know, under full confidentiality, who you are.
Still, we care deeply about your privacy and freedom of speech. Read our privacy policy for more information.
