Christine Jennings arguably won her Congressional seat in 2006...but voting "irregularities" lost thousands of votes in predominantly Democratic areas, leading to her narrowly losing. She is up for a rematch and has been endorsed by Planned Parenthood, United Auto Workers, American Federation of Teachers, SEIU and many others. You can read about my impressions of meeting her in 2006 here.

Close Race in Ohio: The Republican Party is Scared and Going into Debt
There are two special Congressional elections coming up Dec. 11th. Both are seats that once were considered perfectly safe Republican, but suddenly are competitive. I'm telling you, there are fewer and fewer "safe Republican" Congressional disticts. I already brought up the race for VA-1 along with ways you can help. In that race, Philip Forgit, an Iraq War vet is running as a Democrat and needs our help. That race is a good one for those who recognize the slow but certain trend turning Virginia Blue. This trend started in 2005 and has progressed year by year. This trend, coupled with Bush's abyssmal approval ratings and a deepening Iraq quagmire, is what has made VA-1 no longer safe for Republicans.
That said, VA-1 remains a long shot. NOT impossible, but a long shot. Never forget that we WON many long shots in 2006 and we could wake up Dec. 12th with VA-1 flipped to blue. But the race that is more winnable is OH-5 where Robin Weirauch is running for an unexpected open seat. To quote from Daliy Kos:
By now you probably know that there is a special election in OH-05 in less than a week. This is not a race anyone expected a Democrat to be competitive in, but the NRCC is clearly running scared - they've dumped more than 10% of their money in, using it to fearmonger on immigration.

I'm the Boss

On the eve of the election, I would like to remind the Democrats that you work for me. And for her. And for him. You work for the homeless and the gays and the farmers and the uninsured and the minorities and the innocent until proven guilty by something other than the Patriot Act.
I am voting Democrat straight down the line and none of you better let me down. I am going to watch you like a hawk and if you do not fufill your end of the deal, I am going to do all I can in my power to make sure you are severely reprimanded. After all, this is the only instance that I know of in which the employee makes more than the employer, so I feel that I should speak up when you do something I do not like, which happens quite frequently. For example, something like not standing up for health care for every American. You remember... the kind of issue you go on and on about right before the election, only to forget about after you are in office enjoying really decadent lunches that I think you might be charging to me. Why, with all that fatty food you enjoy, it is a good thing that you have such great health coverage!
So, I just thought I should clear all of this up in case you gain control of Congress, the governor's mansion, and the courts. And even if you do not become the majority, please do not be so submissive in your minority status, as you were during this latest outbreak of war. Perhaps if we bomb Iran, you can be a bit more vocal in your protests as you are chauffeured around town.
