The Raw Story | Harris: Separation of church and state 'a lie'
And politicians still wonder why when I interview them, "how do you stand on the separation of church and state?" is one of my standard questions, the second one being "what's your view of parental rights?"
To anyone who has been a long-time reader of culturekitchen will know that my politics are fiercely founded on the right to privacy, secularism and the questioning of parental rights.
[via The Raw Story | Harris: Separation of church and state 'a lie']:
In a lengthy interview with Florida Baptist Witness, struggling U.S. Senate candidate Katherine Harris asserts, among other things, that the separation of church and state is a fallacy."We have to have the faithful in government and over time," the Witness quotes Harris as saying, "that lie we have been told, the separation of church and state, people have internalized, thinking that they needed to avoid politics and that is so wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers."

Liberals, Progressives, Libertarians, and "Conservatives"
We are in the beginning stages of a once-in-a-generation political realignment. The "conservative" movement and its paradigms are dying, and the question now is what is to replace them.
Classical political theory holds that Americans are divided into remarkably stable blocs; there are about 25% conservatives, 20% liberals, and the rest float somewhere in the middle; libertarians, those odd people, may make up perhaps 10%.
So what happened?
The simple fact is that the "conservative" movement needs to call itself something else, because it's not conservative, end of story. What that movement is is christian-dominionist and corporatist, in love with the big government they think should be used as a tool to inflict their Weltanschauung on everyone else, at the same time as it removes any barrier standing between your wallet and the appetite of giant corporations. That's the essence of the new "conservatism". It's no longer about smaller government, but about Terri Schiavo, no longer about a strong defense, but about no-bid contracts, no longer about freedom, but about repression and control.
Hence, we have "bankruptcy reform" which puts you in the position of never being able to escape your debt, while corporations with more than a million dollars in revenue can file under the old rules that let them walk away from their debt; "tort reform", which helps insurance companies at your expense, but hasn't lowered malpratice rates for doctors anywhere it's been implemented; "tax cuts", of which you get a dribble, while the new leisure class gets real money, and communist China makes up the difference; an "energy policy" which has created $10 billion in quarterly profits at Exxon while you bleed at the pump; a "war on terror" which manifests itself chiefly in that there is an unrelated war going on in Iraq and the government gets to spy on you; and constitutional amendments to ban all sorts of behavior the dominionists want rooted out so that Jesus can come back - including, now, flag-burning.

It's time for evangelical churches to start paying taxes
Its time for the IRS to start revoking religious tax exempt privileges. If religious entities and leaders are going to continue to meddle ass-deep in politics, then its time for them to start paying for the government they so vociferously peddle.
Especially since they've thrown off all semblance of separation from government and are now actively working with elected representatives to pass an anti-gay marriage Constitutional Amendment...

The truth is, anti-abortion terrorism is not racketeering
This is one of those "I have a bone to pick with" Planned Parenthood. How could they get away for so long with the claim that Operation Rescue's terrorist attacks on abortion clinics was akin to racketeering just has me a loss for words. They certainly not one and the same. At all.
[via Supreme Court Backs Abortion Protesters in Unanimous Ruling - New York Times]:
The ruling today marked the third time the justices have addressed the long-running dispute over how federal law applies to blockades of abortion clinics. The Hobbs Act, enacted in 1946 to supersede a 1934 anti-racketeering statute, specifically outlaws the obstruction of commerce "by robbery or extortion."
Two violations of the Hobbs Act, in turn, can demonstrate a "pattern of racketeering activity" that entitles victims to triple damages under the 1970 Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO.
In the 1980's, the National Organization for Women and two abortion clinics sued Operation Rescue and the Pro-Life Action League under the Hobbs Act. In 1994, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously that abortion clinics could use that statute, but that they had to prove in court that the actions of protesters were part of a "pattern of racketeering activity."

How in the name of reason is a forced pregnancy the liberation of a fetus and not the reproductive enslavement of a woman?
I bring your attention to this coprolite devoid of judicial, legal and philosophical reason :
[via Catholic Online]:
I end by using the expression, "Free State" with great intentionality. At another critical time in our Nations history another evil was once "sanctioned" by the Supreme Court, the "owning" of human beings as property. The Court was wrong then it is wrong now. For a while, some States were "Free States" and some were "Slave States." After Roe is overturned, that will probably occur once again. Our work will not be over with the coming demise of Roe v. Wade, it only begins. Our goal is not simply to expose and oppose the current anti-culture of death; it is to build a new culture of life, and a civilization of love to replace it.
GoogleNews and Yahoo!News have decided that no feminist blogs will be rotated as part of their sources covering abortion and reproductive rights while fascist Catholic crap like this gets promoted by them as newsworthy. Which is why, all I get on my GoogleNews alerts are anti-choice, dominionist "news sources" on the topic of abotion like Catholic.org. And all I get to read ... oh, yipee ... is stupidity like the one quoted here.

The pregnacists won the Supreme Court war with these four Democrats in tow
Robert C. Byrd, Ben Nelson, Kent Conrad and Tim Johnson are the four Democrats who would not think twice of legalizing the reproductive enslavement of women for forced human harvesting in the United States.

My only post on the fake war on Xmas : culturekitchen {HEARTS} Sam Seder too
I have to agree with John of Americablog : Sam Seder ROCKS!
I just saw the clip at Crooks and Liars. My blog! Seder is brilliant. The man takes talkbot, Bob Knight of Concerned Women for America, and wipes the floor with him.
My favorite moment?
SEDER: This may come as a shock to you, Bob, but I don't consider Jesus the messiah. If you're going to ask me to praise Jesus, I'm going to be a little offended. I don't think the singing of the song, you can find other songs to sing, so what about "Silent Night."
KNIGHT: Because you're offended none of those other kids can celebrate the great heritage of Christmas carols.
SEDER: I'm not the one who said they couldn't do that.
KNIGHT: You're a grinch, sir, that's all you are.
SEDER: Why are you trying to force conversions on people?
KNIGHT: I'm not forcing conversions by singing a Christmas carol.
SEDER: You are, absolutely.
There is sincerely nothing else to say here. BRAVO SAM!
