A solid win for the feminist blogosphere : Whitehouse kicks Lincoln Chafee out of the Senate
The feeling here among the Big Apple's grassroots is that winning Congress is going to be far more powerful for the Democratic Party than taking over the Senate. That said, I am very excited that Whitehouse has smacked Chafee out of the Senate.
Had Lincoln Chafee been a true pro-choice candidate as he had led NARAL to believe he was, he would have voted against both John Roberts and Samuel Alito. He did not. And for that matter, his ass needed to be thrown out of the Senate.
Tomorrow, of all days, the Roberts court starts deliberating on the late-term abortion ban. Thank Lincoln Chafee for voting the two most anti-abortion justices this country has ever had the misfortune to have seated in the Supreme Court.

New York Senator Liz Krueger introduces bill to make emergency contraception accessible to women of all ages

In a released statement by Planned Parenthood congratulated Sen. Hillary Clinton in her efforts to get Plan B approved for over-the-counter use. NARAL, PFAW and the ACLU have been swift to point out that it's a half-win : underage women and fertile children have no free access to emergency contraception. Which is why at culturekitchen Lorraine Berry is taking the pledge to start a PlanB Underground and buy the damn thing to anybody under 18 who needs it.
There is no need to force underage women and fertile little girls down the path of an abortion or unwanted pregnancy for unrational health reasons having all to do with religious extremists obsession over parental rights. Hoorah for New York State Senator Liz Krueger to tackling the issue head on:
KRUEGER CALLS FDA "MORNING AFTER" MOVE A "HALF-VICTORY"; CALLS UPON STATE SENATE TO PASS S.6686 WHICH WOULD MAKE EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION AVAILABLE FOR ALL AGES AT NEW YORK PHARMACIES
New York—Describing today's Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) move to make emergency contraception available over-the-counter to women over 18 as "a half-victory", New York State Senator Liz Krueger called upon the state Senate to review S.6686.

Cecilia Fire Thunder, a living sheroe

After I find the father of my future children (or decide to adopt) and welcome a baby girl into my life, she shall be named Cecilia Fire Thunder. Not only it is the coolest name ever but, DAMN! This woman is living testament to the fire and thunder of her name.
"When Governor Mike Rounds signed HB 1215 into law it effectively banned all abortions in the state with the exception that it did allow saving the mother's life. There were, however, no exceptions for victims of rape or incest. His actions, and the comments of State Senators like Bill Napoli of Rapid City, SD, set of a maelstrom of protests within the state.Napoli suggested that if it was a case of "simple rape," there should be no thoughts of ending a pregnancy. Letters by the hundreds appeared in local newspapers, mostly written by women, challenging Napoli's description of rape as "simple." He has yet to explain satisfactorily what he meant by "simple rape."
The President of the Oglala Sioux Tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation, Cecilia Fire Thunder, was incensed. A former nurse and healthcare giver she was very angry that a state body made up mostly of white males, would make such a stupid law against women.
"To me, it is now a question of sovereignty," she said to me last week. "I will personally establish a Planned Parenthood clinic on my own land which is within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Reservation where the State of South Dakota has absolutely no jurisdiction."
Strong words from a very strong lady. I hope Ms. Fire Thunder challenges Gov. Rounds and the state legislators on this law that is an affront to all independent women."

Here we go again : Tennessee to amend state constitution to force women into pregnancies
So while dozens of countries around the world are passing laws recognizing and protecting women's reproductive rights, the United States takes another step toward reproductive enslavement of their citizens witht the state of Tennessee. Proving that the issue of abortion is not one of saving lives but using the law to create a the new Confederate States of America, Tennessee is looking to amend the state constitution to deny women their right to reproductive autonomy :
[via Tenn. Senate Backs Anti-Abortion Step - Yahoo! News]
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The state Senate on Thursday passed a proposal to amend the Tennessee Constitution so that it doesn't guarantee a woman's right to an abortion.
The 24-9 vote was the first step of many toward officially amending the state constitution. The measure would go before voters if the General Assembly approves it twice over the next two years.

The Lysistrata Option? No, Thanks.

Most of the women I know are full of rage at this moment. We fucking screamed that if he got re-elected, women were going to pay for that election with their bodies. We yelled at our fellow leftists that the right to privacy was important enough to go to the mat for, but we were told to shut our fucking pie-holes because there were more important issues to get worked up about. And now, well, now we have two more anti-choice asswipes on SCOTUS, and states are lining up to gang-rape Roe v Wade. South Dakota got its dick out first, but apparently, other states like Tennessee and Missouri don’t mind sloppy seconds.
As an expression of that rage and disbelief, it’s been floated that it's time for the Lysistrata option. That is, since women cannot be trusted to make a choice, our choice should be:

Milan Babic, a former Croatian Serb leader commits suicide in a prison cell in The Hague and I cannot find it in my heart to give the man a minute of silence. No, what I find is rage, pure blind rage because the repercussions of his actions are but a glimpse of what could become the future of this country.
Babic was tried and imprisoned for crimes against humanities; some of the including the politically sanctioned raping of thousands of Bosnian women by Serbian soldiers. It ought not to be taken as a coincidence that the only other suicide case at The Hague was of Slavko Dokmanovic, another Croatian Serb leader.
UNICEF created a report about the Bosnian rape babies that allegedly has been blocked by the country and not been published. You can read about it at Bosnian Institute News: Bosnia's rape babies: abandoned by their families, forgotten by the state:

What is worse : an abortion before or after birth?
[via New York Daily News - Home - Tot found flattened on L.I. road]:
Residents of a quiet Long Island neighborhood made the grisly discovery yesterday of a dead, naked newborn who had been run over by several cars.
"The baby's body was completely flat, as flat as a pancake," said Sandra Thompson, whose husband, Earl Washington, discovered the corpse on his morning walk.
Police are trying to find out how the baby came to be abandoned on Sunset Drive in Hempstead, a cul-de-sac bordering the Hempstead Golf Course.
Cops said the infant was struck by several vehicles and had been on the road for "some time." Because of the body's condition, detectives said, they could not pinpoint the body's gender or race or exactly how long it had been outside. But some residents said the baby was a boy.
If the pregnacists in this country really wanted to protect the "sanctity" of life, then they would move mountains to spread the technology available for averting unwanted pregnancies. But they will not.
Forcing women to be pregnant is not at all about morality. Forcing women to be pregnant is all about controlling the very foundation of our society : the bodies of women.

Dear Vichy Democrats and Republicrats : You leave me no choice but to kick your sorry pregnacist asses out of my government
This morning I sent a bunch of emails to several feminist and pro-choice bloggers on the matter of Matt Brown. Right after the Alito confirmation I sent an email to Matt Burguess, Matt Brown's communications director. I've been receiving their press releases probably like everybody maybe many other political bloggers all around the country.
I am fed up with what I think is a lack of vulvas, not cojones, effecting the political discourse around choice. We need more feminists raising money, evaluating and promoting candidates, getting on the TV and radio and newspapers and the net and blasting over and over and over again that forced pregnancies are anti-American, that forced pregnancies are a new kind of slavery, that forced pregnancies are a fundamental crime against humanity.
We need to have more women speak like this publicly to all candidates, Democrats and Republicans. I was introduced here in New York City to Eric Massa, an upstate New York candidate running for Congress. I was very happyt to know he's running against Randi Kuhn, a Republican who has been taking tons of money and support from the extreme right with organizations like Focus on the Family and the Homeschool Legal Defence Association. But then, he lost me. When I asked Mr. Massa how we stood on abortion he flubbed, he fumbled, he totally ho-hummed.
