GOTV

The funny thing about liberal billionaires

George Soros
George Soros photo found at Business Week

First of all : Who calls a political action committee "America Coming Together"? It sounds like Babes in Toyland event funded by Hugh Hefner, not a GOTV initiative started by George Soros.

Second, let's look at the numbers : The Federal Elections Commission fines ACT more than half a billion dollars ($775,000 to be exact) because said PAC raised some of its whopping $137MM " outside federal limits and source prohibitions to pay for expenses that should have been paid with funds raised within the federal contribution limits and prohibitions."

What does this verbiarge mean? ACT spent $137MM to pay people to do voter canvassing door to door, with direct mail and telemarketing and urge them to vote against Bush and/or progressive candidates.

That's $137MM.

Youth Vote and Jewish Vote AND Asian Vote: Solidly Democratic

The young are supposed to not care enough to vote...and even if they do, they are supposed to be more conservative than when I was young. And we are always being told that the Jewish vote is going Republican because of Israel, under the insane assumption that killing Muslims helps Israel.

UPTDATED: We are also told that Asian Americans vote Republican...that too proves false.

These are myths. They are myths put out by a conservative media and they were proven wrong in this election.

THE YOUTH VOTE:

From Reuters:

Young Americans voted in the largest numbers in at least 20 years in congressional elections, energized by the Iraq war and giving a boost to Democrats, pollsters said on Wednesday.

About 24 percent of Americans under the age of 30, or at least 10 million young voters, cast ballots in Tuesday's elections that saw Democrats make big gains in Congress. That was up 4 percentage points from the last mid-term elections in 2002.

"This looks like the highest in 20 years," said Mark Lopez, research director of the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement, which compiled the data based on exit polls...

Rock the Vote, a youth-and-civics group, said young voters favored Democrats by a 22-point margin, nearly three times the margin Democrats earned among other age groups and dealing a potentially decisive blow to Republicans in tight races.

Get. Out. And. Vote. Now.

Use this post to tell us who did you vote for, how was your experience, how's the polls looking. All that good stuff.

You can also post images (as long as you host them elsewhere, like PhotoBucket, Buzznet or Flickr).

So go out there.

Vote.

The report back here.

Are YOU a Part of the Solution? You can be!

MoveOn.org was founded to support the movement to censure President Bill Clinton then move on to the business facing the nation (which included the threat of al-Qaeda, ignored by the Republicans until 9/11/2001).

Today, faced with the most corrupt and anti-Constitution administration in modern history, MoveOn.org and the target of its censure effort, President Bill Clinton, are teaming up.

"Nothing that is wrong with America can't be solved with what is right with America."
--Bill Clinton

Today and tomorrow we can try to fight what is wrong with America with what is right. The corrupt and anti-Constitution Republican Party can be fought with good, honest grassroots activism enhanced with modern telecommunications technology. President Clinton, a man I much admire even if I did not always agree with him, has the following message for all grassroots activists in every corner of the nation:

Right now, it's all about reaching out to people and MoveOn knows how to do that better than anyone. I'm writing to tell you that the Democratic candidates in the tightest, neck-to-neck races in the country are counting on you to pull them through to victory with the energy, spirit and passion that define MoveOn.

Today and tomorrow, tens of thousands of MoveOn members are getting together in living rooms and at kitchen tables to call voters in toss-up districts where just a few hundred votes could mean the difference between victory and defeat.

The Final Push: Winning Nationally Right From Your Home

Just a few more days. This year has been amazing. MoveOn.org used targeted ads to leverage some safe Republican seats (like IN-2) to tossups or lean Dem. MoveOn.org's phone banks started by targeting 30 close races and wind up with 54 close races. Among the closest races are Idaho's first district. This rapidly went from solid Republican to tossup.

What's my point? My point is not that I think a Democratic takeover is guaranteed. My point is that we have the greatest opportunity for some 30 years to completely rout the Republicans and expose their corruption, greed and incompetence. But to do this we ALL have to give everything for the next few days. I am trying to make it easy for you. I am highlighting below some critical phonebanking you can do from home, and some ready made Act Blue sites for your donations that reflect three different philosophies for winning elections. PLEASE phonebank or donate if you aren't volunteering in your district.

CAMPAIGNS: Winning in 2006

We have a mere few days to win. And winning depends on you. So, here are the GOTV efforts you can do from home between now and Tuesday. I BEG you to be a part of these efforts!

HELP NY STATE (AND CALIFORNIA) FROM HOME: Help John Hall for Congress (also cooperating after 9 PM with McNerney campaign in California)! Focus on TWO House races in one shot!) sign up to phone bank FROM YOUR OWN HOME here: http://www.johnhallforcongress.com/...

MoveOn.org moves 83,555 "Get Out The Vote" phone calls

Just got this from MoveOn.org

Dear MoveOn member,
Bam. Right out of the gate we're already moving fast.

Since yesterday we made 83,555 calls—smashing the goal of 45,000. It's so fantastic. Let's keep up the pace to beat our goal before the Friday deadline.

These calls are going to Democrats who might not vote—that's why they are so important.

Can you chip in? We need it. Just click below to get started.

http://pol.moveon.org/phone/volunteer/?id=9341-5835097-vG7Llqm1vaQavBMbz...

Our online tool makes it easy to make calls. We give you instructions, lists, a script to use on the phone and you can do it from your home. It only takes a few minutes. Personal calls like this will make the difference.

Think about it: you get calls around election time, right? Usually they are those recorded messages—not a real conversation with a real person who cares.

That personal touch is the most important reason why what MoveOn members do together is so special and effective. All of us actually care—that's one of the reasons we're on the MoveOn list—and that comes out in your voice when you make calls. Nobody can buy that.

Love to talk on the phone? Take a minute to get your volunteer kit here.

If you go ahead and boycott you may as well should brace yourself to risk losing your job. But to advise that as a reason not to is as wortheless as telling someone not to go to war because they may die! Obviously in fighting for anything worthy there is much risk and much sacrifice and that is what America is all about.

This is a monumental movement. Has the tumult of illegal immigrants marching helped their cause in the past? Yes it has. It brought immigrants out of the shadows and into the light. It put the 'A' for amnesty in Senate's immigration debate. What will a boycott do I am not sure but I am suspicious of all the nay sayers who tell others to be mediocre in their endeavors.

The hypocrisy of greed has led to this by allowing companies to partake in illegal hiring practices. And everyone is guilty of that from politicians to farmers to those who needed their garden hedged. This is the unfortunate backlash of a broken immigration system. We only have ourselves to blame and should stop scapegoating and criminalizing those who came here in search of a better life.
