War Profiteering as Foreign Policy

One thing no one has ever been able to answer in any clear and logical way is why we invaded Iraq. It never was about a link to al-Qaeda because that was viewed as bogus the moment Bush tried to claim it. Remember that the ONLY link between Iraq and al-Qaeda BEFORE we invaded was an al-Qaeda connected ANTI-SADDAM Kurdish group who we supported. It never was about WMD because that was based on intelligence from a source KNOWN to be unreliable and Saddam didn't even have a functioning airforce and tank corps, let alone WMD, when we invaded. Plus, any and all supplies for WMD Saddam ever had were given to him by the United States during earlier Republican Administrations, with Rumsfeld personally involved in the deals. In other words we ALWAYS knew what he had and didn't have.

So why invade?

And why did Republicans prevent Clinton from going after Osama bin Laden long before 9/11? And why did Bush pull our troops out of Tora Bora when we had bin Laden cornered?

Why let al-Qaeda continue to function?

I think the answer lies in two simple observations. One is the government's redefining the current war (which they define as BOTH the war on Iraq AND the war against al-Qaeda and which they are trying to expand into Iran) as the "Forever War" (my interpretation of the official government name of "the Long War"). And second are the gross profits being made by large corporations, many directly connected with Administration officials, directly from the war.

Who Really Killed the Civilians of Haditha?

by Jeeni Criscenzo [ImpeachPAC candidate]

I live in the shadow of Camp Pendleton and have many opportunities to talk to Marines. Most of them seem so young to me. Many are 15 years younger than my own son and they have been to Iraq for two and three tours of duty. They are soft-spoken, respectful and sad. I look in their eyes and see dark pools of pain that make me wonder what terrible things they have seen. I've never met a Marine here in Oceanside that seemed capable of killing children in cold blood.

Homeland Security to NYC: Screw You (NYC as Bait?)

On 9/11/2001 the consequences of ignoring the threat of al-Qaeda was driven home dramatically. America, NYC in particular, had the lesson slammed home on that day. President Clinton had warned us, Bush included, that al-Qaeda was the threat to watch. His warnings were ignored. We paid the price on 9/11.

But has the lesson been learned? Did the Bush administration realize that its agenda had to focus on defeating al-Qaeda? At first it seemed that they had. The invasion of Afghanistan and the toppling of the al-Qaeda-allied Taliban was clearly the right first step. I was heartened when Bush took that first step.

But then came Tora Bora. Bush abandoned the War Against Terrorism, pulled out a large chunk of our troops and let Osama bin Laden get away. Why? To invade Iraq, a nation that had nothing whatsoever to do with 9/11. Bush let his attention wander from the war against those who attacked NYC and America. Bush dropped the ball.

As I have written recently, and perhaps at too great a length, that decision by Bush to abandon the real war in favor of his directionless war on Iraq has allowed al-Qaeda and the Taliban not only to regroup, but to expand. They are stronger than ever by our own admission. Bush dropped the ball and the enemy that attacked NYC and America is stronger than ever. Bush is losing the War Against Terrorism, just as he is losing his directionless war against Iraq, "Mission Accomplished" not withstanding. In fact, the Iraqis are taking Bush up on his offer and are "Bringing it on." And now we have even given al-Qaeda its long-desired foothold in Iraq.

RNC Line on Impeachment: Verily, This Is That

By David Swanson

Black is white. War is peace. Impeachment is good for Republicans. Haven't you heard? The Republicans say so. The Democrats say so. It just must BE so.

And yet there isn't a shred of evidence to support it. Usually when we hear that a minimum wage is bad for low-income workers or tax cuts for billionaires benefit the poor, or any such apparently upside-down fantasy, we are at least given semi-plausible theories for how those lies could be truths.

The Case for Impeachment

By David Swanson

In the United States, our best journalism is published in books now and talked about on the radio and the internet. If you get your news from a television or a newspaper, you live in another world. This no doubt contributes to how divided we are politically. Dave Lindorff's and Barbara Olshansky's book could help bridge this national divide. The genius of this book is in its brevity. Lindorff and Olshansky have boiled the list of Bush and Cheney's documented crimes down to an amazingly concise summary, one that however gives a real flavor of the goings on in this criminal administration. I work on these issues and still learned a great deal by reading this book. If each of us who knows some of this and is able to process it easily buys ten copies to give to people who get their news from TV, this clear crisp book might just help save this country. Buy The Case for Impeachment.

From familiarity to usage to importance, social media is far more prevalent in the Inc. 500 than previous research would predict. And where these fast-growing, innovative companies lead certainly the corporate world will follow. The social media revolution is here. That opens up more opportunities for the entire ecosystem.

It must also be noted that blogs are becoming more international than could have been expected. In summary, blogging takes time, commitment, and honesty. In return connections are made that are personal and strong. Blogs are not a fad. They are no longer even an option. Those businesses that choose to remain outside this online conversation, will be sidelined. Eventually they will become extinct. The hype is real.
