Right Wing Terrorist Attack in Ohio
Right wing terrorism is alive and well in America and being ignored. On 9/11/2006 there was a terrorist attack on a woman's health center in Davenport, Iowa. There was the Delaware Pogrom where Jewish and Muslim families were driven out of a small town for not being Christian. The list goes on. And mostly it is just ignored by the media, but Homeland Security...by everyone.
The latest attack is a chemical attack on children in a mosque in Ohio. From Daily Kos:
On Friday, September 26, the end of a week in which thousands of copies of Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West -- the fear-mongering, anti-Muslim documentary being distributed by the millions in swing states via DVDs inserted in major newspapers and through the U.S. mail -- were distributed by mail in Ohio, a "chemical irritant" was sprayed through a window of the Islamic Society of Greater Dayton, where 300 people were gathered for a Ramadan prayer service. The room that the chemical was sprayed into was the room where babies and children were being kept while their mothers were engaged in prayers. This, apparently, is what the scare tactic political campaigning of John McCain's supporters has led to -- Americans perpetrating a terrorist attack against innocent children on American soil.

Extremists for Rudy
Not too long ago Rudy Giuliani could claim to be a moderate, making many right wing extremists uncomfortable. But now, Rudy is embracing Christian fundamentalists, shedding any pretence of being a moderate.
This comes from the National Jewish Democratic Council:
“I am very encouraged by Pat’s support,†said GOP Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani in a statement released by his campaign. “His confidence in me means a lot. His experience and advice will be a great asset to me and my campaign.â€
The "Pat" in question is the Rev. Pat Robertson [real name: Marion Gordon Robertson], who endorsed Giuliani's campaign for president today.
Yes, this is the same Pat Robertson who suggested that former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine retribution. It is the same Pat Robertson who said: "the feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians." It is the same Pat Robertson who called for the assassination of the President of Venezuela. And, alas, it is the same Pat Robertson who said: "just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different."
Rudy Giuliani could very well become the Republican nominee for President. It's imperative that all of us start reminding our friends and neighbors today that a vote for Giuliani is a vote for Pat Robertson and the narrow vision of America he represents. We've already seen how the Bush Administration has paid back the religious right.

New York Post Absorbs Wall Street Journal...Litterally
Rupert Murdoch is trying to buy Down Jones, publisher of the Wall Street Journal. Now, the WSJ is pretty right wing biased to start with, but they have their own independence that would be sadly lost if Murdoch has his way, becoming another cheap rag mouthpiece of right wing extremists.
But what is interesting is there seems to be a sign that the deal is already done.
For several days now, I have seen that the WSJ in Park Slope, Brooklyn, have been delivered in bags marked "New York Post." At first I thought nothing of it, but it has been consistent for a few days at least and it is highly unusual. You don't expect New York Post to be wrapped in a bag saying "New York Times" or visa versa. Is this some kind of Murdoch pissing on the territory he wants to add to his empire of lying, ranting rags? I would love to know just how one paper winds up being delivered in a wrapper marked with the name of another paper.
On a related note, my concerns about Murdoch ruining the integrity of the Wall Street Journal with his love of lying extremists is apparantly shared by the director of Dow Jones & Co, Dieter von Holtzbrinck .
From Salon.com:
In a letter to Dow Jones' other board members, von Holtzbrinck said he was "very worried" that the company's "unique journalistic values will long-term strongly suffer after the proposed sale." Dow Jones disclosed von Holtzbrinck's departure and included a copy of his letter in a regulatory filing Thursday...

Anti-Semitism at Ft. Levinworth
A reader sent me this some time ago, but never got around to writing about it. Now it seems that the military is trying to queitly sweep it under the carpet, but the group Jews on First, the organization that broke the story about the Delaware Pogrom, has taken up the issue.
It seems that chaplains at Ft. Levinworth were giving lessons with anti-Semitic messages. And this is where our tax money is going!
Truthout ran the story a few days ago.
At the Fort Leavenworth, Kansas Army base, military chaplains have been holding Bible classes for US soldiers using study guides that appear to be anti-Semitic.
The Fort Leavenworth chaplains have posted these lesson plans on the Internet under a web address that is maintained by the federal government, giving off the appearance that the religious materials in question are endorsed by the Pentagon. Moreover, disseminating the ideology via a government funded web site may violate the law mandating the separation between church and state.
The nonprofit watchdog group, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, an organization that seeks to enforce the law mandating the separation between church and state in the US military, discovered the documents late last week. The anti-Semitic materials are posted as PDF files at the web site, Command Chaplain Bible Studies, which is maintained by the US Army's Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth.

Religious Intolerance in America
These items come from Jews On First, whose motto is:
Jews responding to the Christian right -
because if Jews don't speak out, they'll think we don't mind
I first became aware of Jews on First when they broke the Delaware Pogrom story, an incident where Christian fundamentalists drove a Jewish and a Muslim family out of a Delaware town because they objected to overtly Christian prayer in a local public school.
The death of Jerry Falwell will not be mourned among those who believe strongly in the Constitution because his message of intolerance and hatred and his advocacy of unConstitutional mixing of church and state was about as unAmerican and immoral as you can get. This is the man who blamed 9/11 on American tolerance while the rest of use wree blaming it on religious extremism. It is unclear to me how Jerry Falwell differs all that much from the religious leaders in Iran.
Jerry Falwell's message of hatred, intolerance and unAmerican theocracy will continue to hurt America long after his death. Here are two items from Jews on First that illustrate how far right wing extremists have taken us from the liberal vision our Founding Fathers had for our nation.
