Olbermann on Scientology

Thanks to the people of Countdown with Keith Olbermann, for allowing YouTubists to disseminate clips of their shows. Olbermann understand the internets and has been good at getting smart viral marketing rockstars to spread his gospel --just like the people behind The Daily Show did with Jon Stewart.

Anyhoo, check out this interview with Dave Touretzky, a 'cultologist' and one of the lead critics of Scientology. Interesting quote : "Scientology has one set of rules for celebrities and another set of rules for everybody else".

The video is after the jump.

Where is Suri and why should we care?

where_is_suri_sm.jpg

[via Is baby Suri Cruise living the Scientology life? - Gossip: The Scoop - MSNBC.com]:

"While on his worldwide promotion of Mission Impossible III, I am told, his behavior was, in a word, paranoid," says Ross. "He was obsessed about the purity of the air and at one point, he was convinced he was being followed and insisted on taking longer routes to places. He was also quite concerned about whether locks worked and had them checked. Scientologists are not only afraid of creating engrams, they're also afraid of the effects of those around them who they call Suppressive Persons or SPs. It's possible that Tom Cruise is being overcome by his Scientology training and that's leading to a paranoid world view that is being reflected in his behavior with baby Suri."

I really was not going to write an article about Tom Cruise's bizarro family life but I have to. This privacy and religion thing is cutting too close to the bone for me.

You see, I am living my little invasion of privacy hell because the father of my children has convinced them to try going to school this next September. The privacy that we were afforded with our homeschooling life is gone, dead, kaput and now I have to contend with prying noses of school teachers, principals and administrators in a way that is invasive and crosses the line of being not just rude but anti-constitutional.

Intellectual Property Rights block technology transfer and TRIPS (trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights) promote monopolies on seeds and medicines and piracy of Third World biodiversity and indigenous knowledge.

That is why we had to fight WR Grace and USDA to revoke the Neem Patent, we had to fight Ricetec to prevent them claiming our basmati as their invention. And we have successfully fought

The rules of The World Trade Organization were designed to impoverish poor people and poor countries, transform their biodiversity and water commons into corporate property so that seed multi-national corporations like Monsanto could sell us our seeds for $1 tr. per year and water giants like Suez and Bechtel could sell us our water for another trillion. And the free trade rules of agriculture are robbing Indian peasants of $1 trillion per year through falling prices because of $400 billion subsidies in rich countries distorting trade by distorting prices.

This is not just a recipe for poverty, it is a recipe for genocide. In the free trade world that Bhagwati upholds, peasants sell kidneys to pay debt for poisons, displaced rural women sell their bodies to feed their children, hospitals become centers of organ theft, and India which sold the finest fabrics and tastiest spices to the world becomes the dumping ground for the toxic wste of 9/11 and the exploded and unexploded shells from the war in Afganistan and Iraq.

Free trade is becoming a mechanism to take our wealth, our biodiversity, our minerals, our brains and give us trash and toxic in exchange. It is an exchange of "bads" for "goods". This is not comparative advantage, it is loot. Which is why we say, "Our World is not for sale".
