Emmett Till
Lorraine, there are some videos and commentary on Emmett Till on PBS. It's worth watching if just to remind ourselves how far we have and haven't come.

I was just seven years old when Mr. Till was so brutally murdered, Sister and I would sit in the front of the new television set and watch the news with our father. We couldn't understand really, we were so young but there was a sense in us both that it was wrong. We were told daily the Golden Rule, our little minds just couldn't comprehend why the Rule didn't apply to everyone. I think that was the beginning of our separation from our parents, especially my father, on where we stood on the rights of man and woman.
This is a brittle reminder, especially after Katrina and the predictable forgetfulness that has since ensued, that we have not come far enough, not nearly far enough in this country when it comes to equality, for everyone.
Thank you for this, it would have slipped away without any thought of it by me, so thank you, my gc, thank you.
