Right-wing extremists crow about their "Gathering of Eagles"

This would have been an awesome Daily Show or Stephen Colbert skit. The problem is that this "gathering" of "soaring eagles" did happen as a counter-rally to the demonstrations happening across the nation on the 4th anniversary of the occupation of Iraq.

Here's a taste of their mission statement :

Gathering of Eagles » Our Mission Statement:

7. We vehemently oppose the notion that it is possible to “support the troops but not the war.” We are opposed to those groups who would claim support for the troops yet engage in behavior that is demeaning and abusive to the men and women who wear our nation’s uniform.

8. We believe in freedom at all costs, including our own lives. We served to protect the freedoms Americans enjoy, and we agree with Thomas Jefferson’s assertion that “From time to time, the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

9. We will accept nothing less than total, unqualified victory in the current conflict. Surrender is not an option, nor is defeat.

They call themselves non-partisan but you know that's a lie. Check out a sampling of their blogroll :

They thought that by taking out of the list the likes Instapundit, Michelle Malkin and Little Green Footballs they would somehow look politically neutral?

Oh my ...

The saddest part is how their "patriotism" decree is tinged by a certain thirst for blood.

we agree with Thomas Jefferson’s assertion that “From time to time, the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

As a woman who has came politically of age as a Puerto Rican patriot, I understand the rationale for defending with your life la patria. What absolutely escapes me is the rationale so many right-wing extremists find for not joining the US Army and spilling their blood for a war they so believe in.

Why isn't Michelle Malkin joining the US Army?

Why isn't Little Green Footballs spilling his blood with the US Marines?

Why isn't Allahpundit taking one for the US Navy?

What will it take for Instapundit to throw himself into the void for the US Air Force?

Are these people patriot enough to join the US Armed Forces and fight the occupation's fight to the death?

I think it's time to revisit Operation Yellow Elephant.

Words to live by

"Way down deep the American people are afraid of an entangling relationship between formal religions -- or whole bodies of religious belief -- and government. Apart from constitutional law and religious doctrine, there is a sense that tells us it's wrong to presume to speak for God or to claim God's sanction of our particular legislation and his rejection of all other positions. Most of us are offended when we see religion being trivialized by its appearance in political throw-away pamphlets."
