Many is the time when a catastrophe making headlines in the US wears on for days and masks a greater upheaval somewhere else in the world. For example the Minneapolis bridge collapse came and I worried about my nieces. Their other aunt and I emailed pictures of the devastation after finding everyone was all right. That bridge story doesn't subside. How much federal money? Now that the thirteenth victim has been accounted for, would it go away? Well, not as long as we have to worry about pigeon dung. And all the while 150 miners in China were buried in a mine. Proportions are not considered in MSM.
It was only a week ago that Mr. Tapia posted his first-hand (better called first-heart account). I've been wondering what will happen when Hurricane Katrina's second anniversary arrives. Or shall we wait for September 11?
There seems to be such a disparity between important human issues and the way they are usually portrayed in the press.
