Let's begin with capitalism, a word that has gone largely out of fashion. The approved reference now is to the market system. This shift minimizes --indeed, deletes-- the role of wealth in the economic and social system. And it sheds the adverse connotation going back to Marx. Instead of the owners of capital or their attendants in control, we have the admirably impersonal role of market forces. It would be hard to think of a change in terminology more in the interest of those to whom money accords power. They have now a functional anonymity. But most of the people who use the new designation --economists, in particular-- are innocent as to the effect. They see nothing wrong with their bland, descriptive terminology. I watched it!
Okay, I finally downloaded the Colbert Report clip and watched it. It took an hour and a half to download but it was well worth it! ;-) Viggo is such a lovable nut! But I hope he didn't let Steve keep that sword! It's too cool of a prop to just give away! ;-) Anyway, was there more to it than just the LOTR spoof? Did he actually do an interview on the show too? Or was he just there to endorse Stephen Colbert for President? ;-)
One more thing - I agree with you Liza, Viggo really needs to start blogging that sense of humor of his online! He could easily put up a blog.html page up on Perceval Press. If he wanted, I could even make one for him that he could use! ;-) But even if he doesn't enlist my help, I would love to see him actually writing his thoughts more online. BTW, what do you think he is smoking? Lol. But I agree, the PP news page is not a blog, it's a news feed, with a bit of poetry and random thoughts and quotes interspursed between the news.
