Sucks
Woke up to this this morning. Away on vacation in California and largely out of the loop. But I had suspected that this would happen. Between the political rivalry with Musharaf (an unscrupulous dictator even if he IS pro-West...I mean Saddam Hussein was as well until we told him he couldn't have Kuwait) and the pro-Taliban Pakistanis, I couldn't believe she'd make it. Still has affected me.
I think this is yet another example of how US foreign policy is doing nothing but destabilizing the world and why democracy and women's rights are going out the window in Bush's foreign policy. Given that Pakistan is considered a lynchpin in our fight against extremism, it just shows our lynchpins are pretty damned weak.
About all I can find to personally do to respond to this assassination is to give an extra donation to the Global Fund for Women, which fights against religious extremism and for women's empowerment around the world.
