Free Speech? Discussion and Book Signing with Author Joe Maguire

Dear friends and activists,

Please join us on Tuesday October 17th at 8:30pm as we welcome journalist and author Joe Maguire who will be discussing his new book on Ann Coulter and the free speech controversy surrounding its release—including his curiously timed dismissal from Reuters last week.

Maguire discussed his sudden and intriguing departure from Reuters in Monday’s New York Times. “There was a difference of opinion about the approval I received to write this book,” Mr. Maguire said. “I thought I had met the conditions, and proceeded accordingly. As a result, I no longer work there.”

If you’ve ever wondered what goes on (or for that matter, what doesn’t go on) in the head of conservative blabbermouth Anne Coulter, don’t miss this opportunity to join People For the American Way Foundation and Young People For as we welcome author Joe Maguire to the Andrew Heiskell Center for Democracy at our Northeast Regional office on Tuesday October 17 at 8:30pm.

Maguire is the author of Brainless: The Lies and Lunacy of Ann Coulter—an unbridled look at a woman who twists the truth, misleads, plays loose with facts and allusions, and has been accused of plagiarism in hammering home her logic-defying arguments.

Brainless illustrates the dangers, ironies, and hypocrisies of the Mistress of Malice. She spews her venom generously across the spectrum. Democrats and Liberals are just the beginning. If you're a woman (you shouldn't vote), gay (you're going to hell), a 9/11 widow (dancing on your murdered husband's grave) or Bill Clinton (slurs and charges too numerous to mention here), you will find yourself the object of her ire.

Now it's time to turn the tables and take a good hard look at the High Priestess of Hypocrisy. Journalist Joe Maguire takes apart her arguments, picks apart her agenda, and gives us a look at the psychology and background of the woman who has reduced public political and cultural debate to browbeating and name-calling.

Diligently researched (with source notes you can verify!), Maguire separates fact from myth and gives us an unvarnished look at the REAL Ann Coulter.

Don’t miss this important discussion of free speech with author Joe Maguire!

Wars are the clock ticking off the time of Israeli history: World War I; the "riots" of 1929 and 1936; World War II; the War of Independence, 1948; the Sinai Campaign, 1956; the Six Day War, 1967; the War of Attrition, 1969-1971; the Yom Kippur War, 1973; the Labanon War, 1982; the Gulf War, 1991. Not all these conflicts were equally significant in their cultural impact, and surely not in the same way, but together they create a ghastly rhythm in which every calm period is seen in Israel as a pause before future violence.

[Editor's Note: I would say this explains a great deal about Israel...and I would add that a similar statement could be made about Palestine]
