Matriarchal, progressive families

That sure describes my family. Sometimes it feels odd to be a male in such a family, but mostly it was just "normal."

My wife's family history is similar, though instead of having an absent Lutheran German father like I did, she had an absent Catholic Polish father. Those families are interesting as well, though. My father's family homesteaded in Iowa and a sporting good store founded by my grandfather is still there, well known by anyone who lives in Davenport.

My wife's Polish grandfather fought against first the Russians then the Germans in WW II. He was a prisoner of war after the big battle against the Germans and met his future wife in the prison camp, oddly enough.

Love history and love genealogy. Family is great...as long as not too many are around at any given time : -)

Words to live by

We are a little bit out of touch in Hollywood every once in a while ... We were the ones who talked about AIDS when it was being whispered. We talked about civil rights when it wasn't really popular ... I'm proud to be part of this Academy. I'm proud to be part of this community. I'm proud to be out of touch.
