Just the FAQ's, Ma'am

Steamgeek graciously invited me to this community as an alternative to the raucous and sometimes silly MySpace environment we've been sharing.

So far, I am impressed with the quality of the writing, the breadth of the topics, and the site in general.

The FAQ's, however, do not explain to me what, exactly, is appropriate for publication here. Clarification on which venue to use (forums, articles/blogs) for what type of post would be appreciated.

My blog covers many aspects of my life. I write blogs about my profession. I write blogs about my family. I write blogs about my perception of the world I inhabit. In the main, my blogs are personal. I do have a series of blogs regarding mentoring that are factually based, and could be written as articles, but they are still OpEd pieces.

So. What belongs here?

I have over 200 readers, many of whom also write well and thoughtfully. Once I have figured out what is appropriate for here, I'd like to extend an invitation to them to join me here as well.

Thanks for any input. I look forward to participating in the community, and hopefully to helping it grow.

Sometimes it feels satisfying. But more often it seems ineffective and pointless. This blog has been more my platform for venting than an actual tool of change --lazy activism, if you will. Or maybe it's just that my interest in seeing the world change has been replaced by a deep cynicism about whether that change will happen. It takes a lot of energy to sustain anger against a cultural machine. And that anger is starting to feel more futile and self-defeating. I mean, how many times and in how many ways can you say "Fuck racists. Fuck sexists. Fuck rich people. Fuck community-destroying trolls. Fuck Republicans."?
