I see the point.
We have had on Daily Gotham several discussions regarding race where some very well meaning white liberals (I am a well meaning white liberal, by the way) just didn't get it. "But race shouldn't matter," was the best they could do.
But race DOES matter and in all the wrong ways.
My wife put it this way: why are we only color blind when it comes to elections.
If we want to favor a black candidate over a white (both qualified, mind you) in a predominantly black neighborhood we get called racist because we aren't being color bind.
But then in all other levels of society, we are not colorblind. Blacks have a higher infant mortality rate and a shorter life expectancy. And in everything in between there are disparities.
Several black bloggers who often disagreed with the main Daily Gotham bloggers stopped by and basically said "thanks for discussing this."
We need to discuss these things and admit our society still has major race problems.
