Help spread the word about Feminism 2.0

On the 2nd of February, we're expecting more than 200 women to descend on George Washington University for a one day conference on women, feminism and technology.

This is the beginning of a conversation started between different people about the tide of change happening to all kinds of activism, especially in the feminist front. Blogs have become one of the most powerful points of discussion and organizing among a not just a new age of feminists but a new technological tribe of feminists that cross ages, ethnicity, race, ability and even gender itself.

I was in the middle of some of these conversations about the present, past and future of feminism and felt that there was a need to get the veterans and the noobs, the geeks and nerds, the men and women and all the different "tranches" of what we today call "Feminism" in the United States, throw them in a room and just have them shake hands and start conversations, collaborations or debates.

It is my hope that Feminism 2.0 is the first of annual meetings where feminists of all kind can come together to celebrate and air, vent and dream, rinse and repeat Smiling

It's why we need your help to spread the word. We need media partners : People who will advertise the event on their blogs, spread the word on their mailing lists, twitter the hell out of what happening, make it a thing on Facebook and MySpace.

If you take the code and decide to help spread the word about Feminism 2.0, please leave your name and a link to your blog in the comments section or use the private message feature at the foot of this post. We want to link back to your blog and acknowledge your contribution.

Ad codes after the jump.

Reinvention Convention, here I come!

In a few minutes I will be at Chelsea Piers here in New York City convening with 400 other women for the Second Annual "Reinvention Convention" organized by MORE Magazine. The kind people at MORE have invited me to witness this all day event for women over the age of 40 on such things as work, finances, health, beauty and fashion.

I can't wait.

Today I'll get to meet the likes of Isaac Mizrahi, Vanessa Williams, Cybill Shepherd, and, oh my blog, the always mind-blowing Carly Fiorina. I can't wait to see close-up one of the women who could have been the VP to John McCain, if only he had a clue.

VIDEO - Bill Richardson rocks a crowd of NYCers

THE DAILY GOTHAM PRESENTS: Bill Richardson

March is an insane month for the amount of political events you can go to. The proof is in the amount of political heavy hitters DL21C was able to wrangle during that month : Jon Kerry, Wesley Clark, John Tester, John Edwards, Bill Richardson. It is also an insane month for the amount of technology and media conferences you can get invited to, the most important (at least for me) being SXSW --but there's eTech and IDPI as well.

I missed almost all the events involving presidential candidates because of the amount of conferences I was involved in during the month of March. Once I was done with my last one, ARC's national conference on "Facing Race", I was free to enjoy a candidate or two by the end of the month. I wasn't able to make it to the John Edwards event (I was having some fun at a party with Nancy Pelosi).

So 3/26 was Bill Richardson's lucky number.

What a week

The week started in Philadelphia on Saturday. I went to the launch of Impeach For Change at, of all places, Constitution Hall. I was there to discuss with other bloggers the importance of keeping the matter of George Bush's impeachment on the table. Not for political vendetta but as a matter of constitutional crisis.

Then on Tuesday on to Barnard College, where with 5 other feminist bloggers we discussed the state of the feminist blogosphere and what opportunities and obstacles lie ahead.

Hours later I hopped on a train to go down to Washington DC. I was slated to give a workshop on blogging with Chris Rabb of Afro-netizen, Bill Densmore of Media Giraffe and Faiz Shakir of Think Progress. I swear, an hour and a half is just not enough for tackling all the questions of concerned of people who want to use new media tools like blogs but just don't know how.

Let's say I am DYING to follow up on all these conference. Give me until tomorrow. I'm running out to pick up my kids at school. Also, the week is not over yet. I still have Rootscamp to attend.

JOIN PROGRESSIVE LEADERS FOR POST-ELECTION DEBRIEF and SKILL SHARE!!!

With so many people at all levels discovering amazing ways in communicating, organizing, using technology to make a difference and adapting to new media habits, it doesn't make sense for a post-election debrief to exclude you... This is why we are calling all technologists, local union activists, grassroots community leaders, precinct captains, heads of a local parties and activists who are kicking ass in a bold new way!

We invite you to attend RootsCamp NYC on Saturday, 18 November 2006 at Polytechnic University in Brooklyn

What is RootsCamp NYC?
Just like in the style of Barcamp, it's a FREE unconference, where you set the agenda.

We will talk about the past and plan for the future.

Think of it as a cross between an election debrief and grassroots organizing skills share. The progressive community - everyone from the "netroots" to precinct captains to field organizers to national message consultants - will come together and hash out:

Words to live by

Who could have imagined that in the United States, with its independent judiciary, thousands of men could be rounded up in the night -- many only because of their Muslim religion or foreign nationality -- without recourse to a trial, without even an acknowledgment that they had been arrested? Who could have dared to suggest that there would ever be "desaparecidos" in America? And there it was as well, torture being discussed as a legitimate option to protect a community in peril, and then being used in Guantanamo and Afghanistan, and even obscenely photographed in Iraq -- yes, there they were again, the depressing echoes of my Chile.

But worse perhaps than all of this was the erosion of the moral compass of America, the seeming indifference of the seeming majority to the suffering of others, the casual acceptance of "collateral damage" as an unquestioned consequence of the war on "terrorism," the demonization of an ubiquitous foe who had to be destroyed without second thoughts -- and often without first ones as well; without, in fact, any thoughtfulness at all. That was far more terrifying than the criminal attacks on New York and Washington: To realize that the Chile of strongman Augusto Pinochet was not that far away, not that difficult to imitate, that it was already hovering in the future and ready to materialize if we were not vigilant.
