We're in the middle of an upgrade

Location

I've upgraded the site to the latest Drupal. If you come on over and look around, you will find some new interesting features. I still have a lot to do, but just wanted to put it out there for you to try and see if you figure out what's new. Also, I am going to change the design a bit. I am adding a fourth colum to the left and pulling to the front all the blogging tools you have tucked away and in your account pages. It's been very confusing to people how to post articles and were to find their blogging tools. Well, with the new collapsible blocks (oops, gave away one of the new features), we'll be able to have more stuff in the front but without the clutter. So let's make this a forum of wishlists. What do you wish for? BTW : I had to flush the cache and the logs to do this upgrade. You will notice it says there's only a few people online. That should be corrected in the next couple of hours. Also, apologies for any inconvenience the dumping of the logs and cache (and maybe anything you were writing at the time) may have caused to any of you.

We're back!

It took longer than I expected but the site upgrade is done. We're still working out the kinks so if you find something funky, please don't hesitate to tell us.

About the site problems

The guys at Webair have been working to get the sites upgraded, the databases optimized but, most importantly, to stop the attacks on my server.

I get way too many random attacks from spammers, scrappers and other web vermin who deserve to die slow and painful deaths. Hope their testicles and/or ovaries shrivel to the sizes of raisins.

The good news is that we should have the upgrades done by the beginning of November.

Drupal expert wanted for much needed upgrade

I may have to switch hosting companies yet again. The company I am with right now have no one on staff that knows how to set or manage a Drupal-centric server.

I need an expert who can take my Drupal 4.7 sites, upgrade them to latest D5 and then set up a multi-site installation --meaning, porting all upgraded sites to a "one code base, multiple databases" setup. This means though that you have systems administrative experience and can effectively sort out what my server may need in or to optimize it's hardware as well as it's software (Apace 1.3, MySQL 4+, PHP 5)

Extra brownie points if you can  :

  1. talk me into going straight into D6 (the issue for me is the lack of key modules) and
  2. also throw in a CiviCRM installation into the mix.

And yes, I will pay. Just make an offer per/project and/or per/hour. Just email me at admin [at] culturekitchen [dot] com.

Liza, blog goddess

Allow me, if you will, a moment of geek rapture, and to present you with our shiny, newly revamped and sexed-up blog platform over at The Daily Gotham.

Go ahead, take a look. See how gorgeous it is; bask in its bloggy goodness.

What you'll see, all prettiness aside, is a kick-ass publishing platform that's marvelously easy to use, loads nicely, looks great and works like a charm. And while I claim partial credit for the look and feel of it, the heavy lifting - and it was heavy - was done by our very own Liza. Everyone, give her a round of applause, and stay tuned, because Culture Kitchen is next.

Me, I think it's going to kick ass. In fact, I'm sure of it.

QUOTES

When people in the media wish to criticize bloggers they should start naming names and start being specific. If we aren't important enough to be engaged specifically than ignore us. It's fair to talk about the blogosphere as a collective at times as it's fair to talk about the mainstream media as a collective at times, but complaining about the nasty tone of the whole party is just cheap and sloppy journalism.

The greater sin of Cohen today was implying that blog readers are balkanized into political camps and are therefore uninformed and stupid. That's one of the worst misconceptions of people who read blogs who are, after all, the people who are most interested in news and political debate - interested enough spend a more than healthy amount of time online keeping up to speed. Cohen shows contempt for the people most likely to know who he is and care about what he writes.
