The threat of Islamic terrorism is real. The world must admit this fact in other to face it, and defeat it.If you are one of those who were shocked by the news of the attempt by the Nigerian muslim militant, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallabs to blow up the flight carrying 300 passengers in the US on Christmas day. Then you need to read this. That on Monday December 28, islamic terrorists were at it again. At least 30 people included 4 soldiers were reportedly killed following a clash between members of an islamic sect, kala-kato and security agents in Bauchi in Northern Nigeria. According to the report, members of this sect said to be an off shoot of the deadly maitasine sect that wreaked havoc in the 80s clashed with security operatives who came to restore order following an uprising by this extremist group. The leader of this sect had at an open air preaching condemned the killing of members of Boko Haram, another islamic sect that clashed with the police some months ago.But the preacher was challenged by some persons in the audience, who were instantly mobbed and killed by the members. Some security agents intervened and arrested the leader of the sect. And in reaction, some members of the sect went on rampage, attacking and killing people, and burning houses.According to a local newspaper, Yusufa Abba, a cripple 'was slaughtered like a a ram' by the members of the sect while at least 15 children were among those killed.
It is sad and unfortunate that Bauchi state is once again the scene of another islamic uprising and religious bloodletting- the third to occur in the state this year.
The Nigerian authorities must admit that islamic fanaticism is real-that islamic terorrism is alive and well- and must adopt comprehensive measures to tackle it. Many islamic sects in Northern Nigeria have become killer-squads in the name of Allah. They are busy nurturing islamic martyrs and suicide bombers. Many Islamic sects are engaged in brainwashing people from child hood and turning them into merchants of death and destruction. Many islamic preachers devote their sermons to inciting hatred and violence against others. Governments must check the activities of these islamic sects and their networks across the world before it is too late.
Governments must muster the political will to tackle islamic fanaticism and terrorism anywhere in the world.
