READ THIS! 10 things you need to know about our site

1. ONLY EDITORS CAN MAKE CHANGES TO PROMOTED POSTS
First off, if your blog post gets promoted to the front page, unless you have front-page privileges, you cannot edit your post. If you do so, the updated version will be saved with your privileges and the post will disappear from the front-page. For that matter, make sure you send me or any of our editors the edited copy. We'll be glad to make the update.

2. ALL FRONT PAGE ARTICLES ARE NOW AUTOMATICALLY SHORTENED
I did this to fit more articles on the page. If you don't like where the system automatically shortens your entry you can always change it by putting the following bit of code (but without the spaces) under the paragraph or image you'd like the cut-off point to be:

< !--break-- >

Remember, no spaces if you want the code to work.

3. YOU HAVE TO GO TO YOUR USER PAGE OR WORKSPACE TO START A POST
The side bars were starting to get unruly and for that matter I decided to move the work sections to ... ahem ... your workspace and member page.

4. FEEDS ARE NOW IN A SEPARATE PAGE
In my quest to clean up the sidebars, I set up a page with links to all the varieties of feeds to the front page available to you. But we have other feeds as well.

At the bottom of the following sections you can find more targeted feeds :

(a) All the members' blogs

(b) Each individual member's blog. Just go to
http://www.culturekitchen.com/USERNAME/blog

(c) Each category has a page. Click on one of the links found under the titles of entries of go to the categories and click on the link to the category page. At the page you will find the link to the category's feed.

(d) Groups also have feeds! If you want to join a workgroup, go to the groups page and click on the subscribe link next to it.

5. UPLOAD THE COMMUNITY CALENDAR TO YOUR iCAL
At the bottom of the community calendar there is a little calendar button. Use it to synchronize all our events with your iCal. The button only uploads. It cannot download your events.

6. PLEASE ADD EVENTS YOU THINK OUR READERS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
And they do not have to be just political events either. We are after all a blog dedicated to arts, culture, politics, and technology.

7. WE HAVE IMAGE GALLERIES. MAKE GOOD USE OF THEM!
People are more liable to read blog posts if they have images. For that matter, we have community image galleries that members can use for uploading images and linking to them. If you need this explained further, please leave a comment on this post.

8. DID YOU NOTICE OUR "LIVE" EMOTICONS?
Just asking. They should appear on the sidebar in all your content entry forms and comment pages.

9. USE YOUR PROFILE PAGE TO PROMOTE YOURSELF!
I am always being forwarded requests for speakers at conferences and forums. Make sure you let us know what you do professionally, how you do it and where.

10. IF YOU HAVE A BLOG AND IT'S NOT IN OUR BLOGROLL, JUST HOLLA BACK!

Could Use Lots More Info

Yep - I sure need images explained further. I need lots explained further, except anchors, I am having fun with those and make 'em fast now. Smiling

1) I'd like to choose something for my personal photo, maybe, so I won't be the default guy who looks pissed about everything,is that possible? (Not is it possible he's pissed about everything, I'm sure it IS, and he is - I meant the photo set-up)

2)And while I'm being ignorant, I've been looking for how to change the colors of CK as I see it on other blogs, green is nice, but I can't find any control anywhere to do this? I remain red.

p.s. sorry about the hide-and-seek editing my promoted blogpost today -

And How Do I . . .

get multiple categories listed in grey atop my blogpost, when the pulldown composition menus will only accept one each? What if I was education and unschooling and accountability and religion and culture, maybe memes and think tanks too, all at the same time?

These are great questions

because it helps me build the FAQs section. Keep them coming!

I am going to also make separate posts for them so that we have them easily accessible to others as well. Here's some quickies :

(1) TO CHOOSE A NEW TEMPLATE :
* Go to your account page.
* Click EDIT tab.
* Scroll down the page until you see the choices
of the templates. We have red, blue, orange and green.
* Pick one by clicking on the radio button next to it.
* Scroll further down the page and hit SUBMIT.

Presto change-o

(2) TO CHOOSE MORE THAN ONE CATEGORY:
* If using MAC : Hold the APPLE BUTTON while
clicking on all your choices.

* If using WINDOWS : Hold the CONTROL BUTTON
while clicking on all your choices.

You can redo the tags on all your previous posts. Just make sure though that you don't do so on any of the promoted ones.

Eye-wink

Which reminds me, don't worry about the post thing. I totally forgot about that detail. Unfortunately the documentation for this system is sorely lacking, so I will have to build the User Manual section a bit at a time.

It Takes a Teenager, Not a Village

. . .to help you get your own picture uploaded to your own blog.

As you can see now, I finally managed it late last night, with nothing but a teen I had around the house. She had family digital photos on file that I hadn't even seen, pursed her lips thoughtfully and picked one she liked, manipulated its size, made someone else's arm disappear from the background, did lightning-quick mystical coding on the keyboard, moved stuff all around in some files, went to CK from HER desktop with me just gaping over her shoulder like I wasn't really there, and suddenly there I was in your kitchen, looking back at myself.

Come to think of it (maybe I shouldn't) my virtual presence likely couldn't exist at all without her. So technologically at least, she is my creator rather than the other way around?? I always assumed she'd be my immortality someday, carry my spirit beyond what I can do as myself. That's why we have kids, yes? But should I be disconcerted that she's already the master and creator, translating and transmitting my disembodied spirit through the ethos with very visible, tangible results, before I've physically departed this mortal coil? I see a bright light and might as well move toward it, maybe find a friendly medium on the other side . . .
