Pinochet Dies
Chilean dictator, torturer and CIA pawn Pinochet dies.
One should not speak ill of the dead, but in this case, there is no reason to mourn the death of a man who led such a disgusting reign of terror.
If I believed in Hell, I'd be sure Pinochet and his fellow thugs would be there.

And let's not forget our own role in the overthrow of Allende and the rise of Pinochet to torturer in chief of Chile: (Quotes from Wiki)
* "I don't see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist due to the irresponsibility of its own people. The issues are much too important for the Chilean voters to be left to decide for themselves." — Henry Kissinger
* "It is firm and continuing policy that Allende be overthrown by a coup. It would be much preferable to have this transpire prior to 24 October but efforts in this regard will continue vigorously beyond this date. We are to continue to generate maximum pressure toward this end, utilizing every appropriate resource. It is imperative that these actions be implemented clandestinely and securely so that the USG and American hand be well hidden..." — A communique to the CIA base in Chile, issued on October 16, 1970
Augusto Pinochet | Chile
Agreed
I haven't known anyone who lived in Chile under Pinochet, but I did know someone who grew up in Argentina during the dirty war, a similar period of oppression by US-backed dictators. His stories were fairly chilling, basically summed up in a statement that "your friends could go out to the movies and you never knew if you'd see them again."
Spreading democracy has seldom been a high priority of America, unfortunately.

That's the image of Pinochet I gre up with
I honestly don't understand why the motherfucker was able to die old and in his sleep. It really is mindboggling how people hold on to tyrants and protect them. I don't get the cult of personality around this monster.
