Right Wing to Alaska: You Don't Matter. Only Exxon Matters.
I am sure many readers read with disgust the Supreme Court's decision to let Exxon/Mobil off the hook for the Valdez oil disaster, which devastated Alaska's coastline. This just reminds us YET AGAIN that America doesn't matter to the right wing Republicans. Only big oil companies, Halliburton and cronyism matters to these fools.

And here is a statement from Alaska's Democratic Senate Candidate, Mark Begich:
“The thousands of Alaskans whose lives were devastated by this disaster are hurt, once again, by this ruling," Begich said. "What we’re seeing today is another example of how Washington is out of touch with real people. The justices have sided with corporate America rather than with Alaska families who have suffered for nearly 20 years.”
Begich added that while the livelihoods of thousands of Alaska fishermen and others were destroyed by the spill, Sen. Ted Stevens has continued to work to serve the interests of big business, rather than put pressure on Exxon to settle the lawsuit or drop its appeals.
“Sen. Stevens continues to show he works hard for special interests, but where has he been when it comes to doing what’s right for Alaskans?” Begich said.
In 1989, the Exxon Valdez spilled more than 11 million gallons of crude oil in Alaska’s Prince William Sound decimating fish and wildlife populations. In 1994, a federal jury in Anchorage awarded more than 32,000 plaintiffs harmed by the spill $5 billion in punitive damages. Exxon appealed and the award was reduced by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to $2.5 billion. Exxon appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court which ruled today.
With Exxon’s net income last year of over $40 billion, Begich called on the oil company to pay up within 30 days.
“No more delays. Exxon needs to write those checks today,” Begich said.
Needless to say, I reccommend to everyone to just stop buying gasoline from Exxon/Mobil. They are pretty much consistently the WORST, greediest and least responsible of the oil companies. Why anyone would give them a dime is beyond me.

That Makes no Sense

So, you are equating a disagreement over what should be done with Federal land in Alaska to where someone stands on whether one of the wealthiest oil companies in the world making record profits should pay damages to the people whose lives and environment were ruined by Exxon's negligence or whether the oil company should be let off the hook. That makes no sense whatsoever.
And yes...I am aware of the Alaskan attitude towards oil drilling and the payouts they get both from oil profits and from the government. I happen to know people from Alaska and I know politicians in Alaska. Apparently unlike you I don't feel I have to agree with someone 100% to stand up for their rights. I don't personally believe flag burning is a reasonable thing to do, yet I support a person's right to burn a flag as part of freedom of expression. I personally don't think gun ownership is a logical thing for most people, but I support second amendment rights because they are Constitutional rights. So my personal views of whether there is any use whatsoever in drilling on pristine Federal lands has no bearing on whether I will support fellow Americans fighting for what they deserve from a negligent oil company that screwed them. You see, I consider people as mattering more than ideology and more than Exxon's profits.

Strikes me your chain of logic has some serious weak links there. So if I believe people's rights should be defended, you would require me to agree with every opinion they ever had? Once again, that makes absolutely no sense.
Let me reiterate: I may disagree with Alaskans on how FEDERAL land is used, but I do not believe an oil company's negligence ruining the livlihood of Alaskan fishermen (another important Alaskan industry, in case you didn't realize) should be let off so lightly particularly at a period where that oil company is making record profits, and so cannot honestly plead poverty. NOWHERE in that position am I expressing disdain of Alaskans and there really is no logical way you can make the arguement that I am.
So do I take it you are expression support of Exxon/Mobil profits over the basic subsistence needs and the rights of American citizens?

It's good to see that you are such a strong advocate of Alaska. You may also be interested to know that Alaska is strongly in favor of drilling in ANWR. The governor of Alaska has advocated for the drilling as well as the citizens themselves - with 75% of Alaskans support exploration and production in ANWR, see here.
So is it safe to assume that you, as a strong supporter of Alaskan's, support drilling in ANWR too? Or did you really mean that you care about Alaskan's in so far as they support your political agenda, otherwise, as you say, Alaskan's "Don't Matter"?
