The Real America in 2 Eras

Same song, 2 eras. Struck me this song seems oh so appropriate right about now. A song about REAL American values sung by REAL Americans. Something I am sure Bush/McCain/Palin Republicans just don't understand.

Woody Guthrie (original):

Bruce Springsteen (my generation):

And a version that is new to me:

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings:

Re: This land is your land!

Hooo! That IS my version of This Land is Your Land! Thank you for that. It does feel like our land again, doesn't it? May this be all my children ever know.

[BTW, who performed it? I couldn't copy the full You Tube link but recognized the club in a second - Ashkenaz in Berkeley, CA! Brings back memories of rainy music-filled Sunday afternoons with my then toddlers- no place you can bring your dog and your kids to dance all night here in Philly!]

I'll be singing all day.

A NEW LAND

The election of Obama caused the biggest one day crash in the stock market of all times. The election of Obama sent the unemployment rate to its highest in 7 years. With more drops in the stock market to come and more people being laid off, the following should be standard practice for all employers having to layoff personel.

From a small business owner:

Subject: If you must lay off employees in 2009

As a business owner who employs 30 people, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barack Obama will be our next President and that my taxes and fees will go up in a BIG way.

To compensate for these increases, I figure that our customers will have to see an increase in my fees of about 8%. I will also have to lay off six of my employees. This really bothered me as I believe we are family here and didn't know how to choose who will have to go. So, this is what I did. I strolled through the parking lot and found eight Obama bumper stickers on my employees' cars. I have decided these folks will be the first to be laid off.

I can't think of more fair way to approach this problem. If you have a better idea, let me know.

I am sending this letter to all business owners that I know.

The real change you can believe in. Those that voted for Obama wanted change and this should be the change they experience.

Amazing

You believe that Obama has so much power that before he even is President he is affecting our economy? You must really think he is superhuman. Last I checked, our economic policy is still dominated by Bush, Cheney, Paulson and the rest who presided over the massive collapse we have seen over the past months. THere is no way in hell you can honestly blame Obama for the mess that Bush walked us into. I guess you probably blame Clinton for the bombing of Pearl Harbor, right? And maybe Howard Dean sunk the Titanic? Pretty darn hysterical of you, if you ask me.

As to what you are advocating business owners do, that would get them sued in no time. That kind of practice is stupid and illegal. Firing and hiring should be based on merit, not prejudice. You, of course, base most of your beliefs on prejudice. Thankfully, America rejected that kind of hysteria. But what a dear, you maintain your blind hysteria even to the point of believing Obama has some kind of retroactive influence on the economy that has sucked since soon after Bush took office. You can't make people forget some 7 years of economics that ranged from sluggish to outright bad.

Words to live by

The much vaunted Clinton campaign operation, billed as the biggest, baddest game in town, had no post-Super Tuesday strategy because its leaders apparently didn't think one was needed. Whether that's due to arrogance or ignorance, it's the campaign equivalent of what President Bush did in invading Iraq without a post-Saddam plan.
