ELECTION RESULTS

Created 7 Nov 2007 - 7:46am

VIRGINIA: Virginia is now officially blue...the State Senate flipped to Dem yesterday. Chap Peterson won with 55% of the vote. And Democrats picked up more seats in the House of Delegates. So overall nice. Very nice.

KENTUCKY: Republicans never learn. They got hit hard in 2006 because of corruption, among other things. But they still embrace their most corrupt members...like Ernie Fletcher, now FORMER Governor of Kentucky. Fletcher was among the most corrupt governors in the Union. And voters once again voted AGAINST corruptioon. Democrat Beshear is now Governor of Kentuckym winning with almost 60% of the vote. In fact the Democrats won big time overall in Kentucky picking up most statewide offices. I notice CNN seems to be billing the defeat of corruption in Kentucky like some kind of tragedy. Personally I think the defeat of Ernie Fletcher is the best thing to happen to Kentucky in a long time.

NEW JERSEY: Voters rejected a bill taht would provide $450 million in bonds to fund life-saving stem cell research. Once again, conservative ideology wins over the health of Americans. That said, the picture was overall good in New Jersey. Republicans had hoped to flip the state legislature, but instead Dems picked up some State Senate seats.

OREGON: The ballot initiative that balances development and the environment won. The ballot initiative that would use a cigarette tax to fund children's healthcare lost. Well...once again conservative ideology hurts American healthcare.

UTAH: Ralph Becker won with 63% of the vote. And school vouchers lost with 62% of the vote against. Way to go Utah!

ARIZONA: John Williams, one of Progressive Majority's endorsed candidates, came in a close second for Surprise City Council.

MISSISSIPPI: In a big blow to Katrina victims, and a big win for insurance companies, Gary Anderson lost his bid to be Mississippi's insurance commissioner. The corporate shill Republican won. Insurance company CEOs are celebrating.

CALIFORNIA: Looking at the Progressive Majority endorsed candidates: In San Bernardino, Rikke Van Johnson may have to face a runoff. He us just under 50% last I looked. Carolyn Tillman lost her challenge to Chas Kelley. Councilman Pete Aguilar is holding onto his seat. Rick Hutcheson will probably face a runoff in his bid for an open City Council Seat in Palm Springs.

LOUISIANA: Republicans picked up the governorship.
