Am asking.
Seriously.
I'm inundated with cards of people who want to keep up with the site. A weekly update is in order. I mean, look at what we've done this week while I was away :
On Monday [2] I published, There are no mommy wars when the real war is at home [3]. Although I have not caught up to JJ's comment, I've actually had a number of women and men emailing privately or stopping me in my neighborhood to tell me aside what JJ said in the comments : They're going through their own versions of the same. You read that right, men and women. So that one gender assumption of mine, is ... well ... ahhh ... hmmmm .... the point is totally taken.
I'll have more to say about that soon.
Tuesday [4] I was again out in Washington DC at the Cable Television Public Affairs Association 2006 Forum [5]. My ego was stroked verily and in more ways than one when I was called a "hero" by a couple of the attendees. This, even after I warned the roomfull of attendees that in the battle waged between the cables vs. telcos for control of the internet, to most bloggers they both were technically the enemy. Even after that, they thanked me profusely for the presentation. The topic? We the media. My slides (yes people, I powerpointed!) will be forthcoming.
Also, and for the fact that this blog has just been so ... ah ... hmmm ... heavy, I decided to throw in a Priest and a Rabbi [6] and The Corsair's Soft ball tossers [7] for good measure. I hope y'all follow with more jokes, cartoons, vooglings [8] or limericks as well.
On hump day [9] Lorraine came out swinging with Soup Kitchen Memories [10]. Mole333 came out of his The Daily Gotham [11] hole [ h e h ] to call people to action with Jim Hansen Nails Bush on 60 Minutes: My Global Warming Call to Action for You [12].
Oh how I love group blogging!
This is the same Wednesday I attended a DailyKos meetup here in New York City where ... ahem ... I was asked to toast the oh-so-happy couple of Kos and Jerome on their new little printed bundle of joy ... heh. Jerome was whiter than I thought and Kos still looks 15. Shit man, grow a mustache or something.
[I dare you Kos to delink me because, bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, YOU CAN'T. Sike!]
If you have yet to read JJ Ross' Thursday post [13] on the political dance of real-life planned parenthood, Teaching our girls to dance [14], I urge you to do so now. Michael writes about the billboard craziness of the ex-gay group Exodus in We've got to help these people [15]. Mole shows how Hurricane Katrina exposed political activism as a matter of survival in Bush's country in Race, political relevance and survival in America [16].
All of this was possible even as the site has been under attack, yet again, with denial-of-service like spam campaigns. Lynn is on it, but this is really getting to be ridiculous. Any Drupal developers with similar situations? Please holler.
I love these and am definitely making them my Friday newsletter post. With our tools it'll be posted to the site as a blogpost but sent out to a mailing list attached to it. Sweet. And y'all can forward it to as many people as you want with the "SEND" link that appears at the bottom of each blogpost.
To which I will add : You see that picture above. Earlier in the year I mentioned how I may have to start my own awards. Lorraine suggested calling them the Cassandras. JJ's the "culturekitchies". But for fuggly news as this pregnacist's sexually exploitative sculpture of a pregnant Britney Spears [17], we need something else :
Capla Kesting denies the statue was developed from a rumored bootleg Britney Spears birth video. The artist admits to using references that include the wax figure of a pole-dancing Britney at Las Vegas' Madame Tussauds and 'Britney wigs' characterizing various hairstyles of the pop-princess from a Los Angeles hairstylist. And according to gallery co-director, David
Kesting, the artist studied a bearskin rug from Canada "to convey the commemoration of the traditional bearskin rug baby picture."
And people dare to call Puerto Ricans tacky? This is a totally WTF!
David Kesting, for your retard pregnant fetish, you've got yourself the first ever CultureKitschy.
So y'all, going back to the beginning : The week in review? This week's leftovers? This week's counter talk?
Waddayathink?
Speak up!
