Feingold Kicks Specter in the Nuts

Well, not really. But this shows why we need to oust as many Repbublicans as we can this year. A Republican Bill to Ban Gay Rights (specifically marriage equality) has passed committee and will go to full Senate debate.

Feingold, Specter Clash Over Gay Marriage

By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer 43 minutes ago

A Senate committee approved a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage Thursday, after a shouting match that ended when one Democrat strode out and the Republican chairman bid him "good riddance."

"I don't need to be lectured by you. You are no more a protector of the Constitution than am I," Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, R-Pa., shouted after Sen. Russ Feingold (news, bio, voting record) declared his opposition to the amendment, his affinity for the Constitution and his intention to leave the meeting.

"If you want to leave, good riddance," Specter finished.

"I've enjoyed your lecture, too, Mr. Chairman," replied Feingold, D-Wis., who is considering a run for president in 2008. "See ya."

Go Russ! If you do choose to kick Specter in the nuts you'd have my vote for President right then and there. As it is, I say we focus on defeating Republicans in every state of the union.

Got Democracy Bonds yet?

And let's not forget, the Republicans' claim to morality is scarcely believable these days what with sex scandals and massive corruption.

Apparently

Senator Specter does need some lectures on protecting the Constitution, seeing as he's failed miserable at it the last several years.

The most disgusting thing about this

is that deliberations of the bill happened behind closed doors. That's the part they're not telling people. This was a secret vote he decided wanted no part of.

Dude! If this guy runs for president, he's up there in my book with John Edwards. Those are two candidates I can say, yeah, I can hit that (with my vote).

Heh.

Yeah

the secret thing...I thought Republicans were proud of their anti-gay bigotry.

I'm rather enjoying Feingold lately. Gotta love those progressive Midwesterners (god, I still find myself missing Paul Wellstone--esp when I see WWWD bumper stickers in Somerville, MA).

Politics are not the answer for black people, never have been, never will be. Been knocking on that door for too long now...nobody has answered...STOP knocking!

This is not to say that some well-meaning but, misguided, black people have not attempted to promote change through these channels but...c'mon people...it aint workin'

I would also like to add, that black people are NOT a monolith. There is room for a plethora of opinions, discourses, methodologies, and passions in the struggle...HOWEVER...there is no room for self loathing and the loathing and mistrust of other black people.
