Zinédine Zidane was "super-arrogant" and "I insulted him", admitted Marco Materazzi to La Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday,, 11 July. The italian soccer player provoked the frenchman who gave a headbutt that cost him an expulsion from the World Cup final game.

"I grabbed his t-shirt for only a few seconds, he turns to me, talks to be curtly, gives me the eye super-arrogantly from top to bottom : 'If you really want my jersey, I'll give it to you afterwards. I responded to him with an insult, it's true", Matterazzi told the sports newspaper/

However, when asked if the insult was meant for his sister, as it was confirmed to the media, Marco Materazzi said pointedly : "It was one of those insults you hear say dozens of time thrown at each other on the field.

"What is cecrtain is that I never called him a terrorist : I am not that educated and I have no idea what would an islamic terrorist be and my only terrorost is her ...", said Materazzi to the journalists as he pointed to his 10 month-old daughter who was sleeping next to her in the plane that was taking the italian team back home.

MOTHERS ARE SACRED

"I did not mess around with Zidane's mother either because for me the mother is sacred", had insisted the InterMilan player. Corriere della Sera had reported in an article focused on the exchange that Marco Materazzi had lost his mother when he was 14 years-old; so it was inconceivable for him to insult Zidane's mother.

The mystery hangs over what did Materazzi did say to Zidane to provoke such rage. Among the lip-reading specialists consulted on Monday by the Brazilian TV network, Globo, Materazzi may had called Zidane's sister a prostitute; whereas british journalists who also consulted lip-reading experts claim the italian called the frenchman "son of a terroriste whore".

Zidane has decided to wait a few days before he talks about the incident; his agent has said. The italian press says that Maco Materazzi is wanton to provocations and altercations.

Zinédine Zidane a été "super-arrogant" et "je l'ai insulté", a reconnu le joueur italien Marco Materazzi qui a provoqué le Français, ce dernier lui donnant un coup de tête qui lui a valu l'exclusion en finale du Mondial de football, affirme La Gazzetta dello sport de mardi 11 juillet.
"J'ai tenu son maillot pendant quelques secondes seulement, il s'est tourné vers moi, il m'a parlé en raillant, il m'a regardé avec super-arrogance, de haut en bas : 'Si vraiment tu veux mon maillot, je te le donnerai après'. Je lui ai répondu avec une insulte, c'est vrai", a raconté Materazzi, selon le quotidien sportif.

Alors qu'on lui demandait si l'insulte visait la sœur du joueur français, comme l'ont affirmé certains médias, Marco Materazzi a précisé : "Une insulte de celles qu'on s'entend dire des dizaines de fois et qui nous échappent souvent sur le terrain."

"Ce qui est sûr, c'est que je ne l'ai pas traité de terroriste : je ne suis pas cultivé et je ne sais même pas ce que c'est un terroriste islamiste et ma seule terroriste, c'est elle...", a dit Materazzi au journaliste en se tournant vers sa fille de 10 mois, dormant à ses côtés dans l'avion qui a ramené l'équipe italienne à la maison.

"LA MAMAN EST SACRÉE"

"Je n'ai certainement pas mis en cause non plus la maman de Zidane, pour moi, la maman est sacrée", a ajouté le joueur de l'Inter Milan. Le Corriere della sera rappelle dans un article consacré à cet échange de propos entre les deux joueurs que Marco Materazzi a perdu sa mère à l'âge de 14 ans et qu'il n'aurait certainement jamais insulté celle de Zidane.

Le mystère demeure donc sur ce que Materazzi a réellement dit à Zidane pour provoquer une colère pareille. Selon des spécialistes de lecture labiale interrogés lundi par la chaîne de télévision brésilienne Globo, Materazzi aurait traité la sœur de Zinédine Zidane de "prostituée", tandis que d'après plusieurs journaux britanniques, qui ont consulté également des experts, le défenseur italien aurait traité le Français de "fils d'une pute terroriste".

Zidane a pour sa part décidé d'attendre quelques jours avant de parler de cette affaire, selon son agent. La presse italienne rappelle que Marco Materazzi est coutumier des provocations et des bagarres.
