You've never seen a whiter Pakistani [1]
So Rahm Emmanuel has upgraded Mr. Van Hollen over at the DCCC.
How nice.
I'm sorry but I had a tad of a knee-jerk reaction when I saw his picture. Then I read this :
Van Hollen To Oversee Recruiting, Fundraising - washingtonpost.com [2]:
On the Hill, Van Hollen is considered part of a younger generation of Democrats whom Pelosi is grooming through leadership opportunities. He is a member of the 30-Something Working Group, an informal team that helped spread the party's message from the House floor during the campaign. He is considered a reliable liberal and has voted against Bush tax cuts, a ban on "partial birth" abortion and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve.Brendan Daly, a spokesman for Pelosi, said Van Hollen's appointment is a vote of confidence by Pelosi in his political judgment, ability to recruit candidates and raise money. He's one of "our bright young stars," Daly said.
He's is one of the "bright young stars" at the tender age of 47. Yup. He's a puppy. A puppy that represents the New America [3]?
Right.
Why do I have a knee-jerk reaction? Well ... Right now the two most prominent colored people in Congress are two sexuagenerians who have about 50 years combined in office.
Not only that, the Pew Institute released earlier this month some interesting demographics numbers:
Pew Research Center: From 200 Million to 300 Million: The Numbers behind Population Growth [4]:
According to the Pew Hispanic Center’s population estimates and projections, the Hispanic population increased from 8.5 million in 1966-67 to 44.7 million today. Latinos accounted for 36% of the 100 million added to the population in the last four decades, the most of any racial or ethnic group. Immigration from Latin America and relatively high fertility rates among Latinos were major factors in
this increase. The white population grew from 167.2 million in 1966-67 to 201.0 million today. That represented 34% of the 100 million added since
1966-67.The black population increased from 22.3 million to 38.7 million and accounted for about 16% of the population growth, according to the estimates. The Asian and Pacific Islander population increased from 1.5 million to about 14.3 million, representing about 13% of the increase.

Please educate me.
How does this man represent the New América? I am not being facetious here. I'd like to hear more about his work and his record; 'cause it's frustrating that the Republicans manage to give a latino, Senator Mel Martinez [6], the chairmanship of the GOP, but Democrats won't tap any minority (not just a Latino), for congressional recruitment.
Just saying.
