Vito Fossella for Mayor?!?!

I think sometimes it is good to expose how idiotic the other side is. Jay Golub over at that the local right wing propaganda site urbanelephants.com is showing how insane they are. He is pushing Vito Fossella to run for Mayor:

If he stars a Draft Vito for Mayor site, I'm going to be sick. If Vito runs I'll be even sicker. Vito Fossella's ego is so big he probably would run for mayor just because he hates his fellow congressman Anthony Weiner enough to do it.

The sad thing though is that Vito Fossella getting elected Mayor might be the only way the Democrats are going to get his congressional seat back. Which I'd love to see happen. Of course I wouldn't be here to see it happen, because if Vito Fossella is elected Mayor in '09 I'm moving to south america or something...

Please take this as a constructive critique.

Nobody on this blog has even the faintest clue who Vito Fossella is, because the readership is mainly outside of the City. So you might want to explain that he's New York City's only R Congressman.

Second, Jay Golub is not stupid. If he's pushing this, the man has likely given it some thought. As to Weiner, him and Vito get along quite well; they're professionally friendly, and that's not exactly a state secret. I'd also assume that nobody here knows that Congressman Weiner ran for Mayor in 2005 and may do so again next time around. The Fossella rumor, BTW, is not new, and has been bandied about for quite some time; I heard it six months ago, and I'm still laughing, for many reasons too complex to go into here.

Third, after reading this, I have gained the information that you don't like this Vito character, but that's about all. There's really no redeeming value to this. So I'd cordially suggest you put a bit more work and reflection into the nature of your audience into such posts. I'm sorry, but this piece is not up to our standards; this is MySpace material, and that just barely. You're doing nobody any favors here, and I say that being very interested in Vito's quick retirement.

If you go ahead and boycott you may as well should brace yourself to risk losing your job. But to advise that as a reason not to is as wortheless as telling someone not to go to war because they may die! Obviously in fighting for anything worthy there is much risk and much sacrifice and that is what America is all about.

This is a monumental movement. Has the tumult of illegal immigrants marching helped their cause in the past? Yes it has. It brought immigrants out of the shadows and into the light. It put the 'A' for amnesty in Senate's immigration debate. What will a boycott do I am not sure but I am suspicious of all the nay sayers who tell others to be mediocre in their endeavors.

The hypocrisy of greed has led to this by allowing companies to partake in illegal hiring practices. And everyone is guilty of that from politicians to farmers to those who needed their garden hedged. This is the unfortunate backlash of a broken immigration system. We only have ourselves to blame and should stop scapegoating and criminalizing those who came here in search of a better life.
