Are Americans Unready to Boil?
Are Americans Unready to Boil?
Joel S. Hirschhorn
The frog-in-boiling water model helps us understand political upheavals: how citizens wake up early enough (or too late) to respond to social and economic oppression. Sometimes the greed and arrogance of Ruling Classes makes them careless and social waters heat too quickly. Sensing doom, alert citizen-frogs escape or revolt. Or they stay complacent and boil. The Bush Administration has turned the heat up on us, explaining why nearly 75 percent of Americans believe their country is on the wrong track and 70 percent think the economy is worsening.
Mexico is the richest Latin American country but has extreme economic inequality, which measures social temperature. Mexicans are jumping out of oppressive waters en masse, right into the U.S., exacerbating our rising inequality. The Chinese have learned to offset oppressive communist forces with materialistic capitalism – like our affordable materialism keeps Americans distracted and docile (with help from Chinese imports). In colonial America the greedy British motivated our Revolutionary War, but with oppression now coming from within, will Americans wait too long?
Some Americans keep warning us – people like Michael Moore, Cindy Sheehan, Aaron Russo, Dennis Kucinich, Lou Dobbs, Ralph Nader, Ron Paul, Bill Moyers, Jon Stewart, and Keith Olbermann. They entertain complacent “frogs†and preach to the choir of alert “frogs†that also know the temperature is rising dangerously. Many of the former keep hoping that putting better Democrats or Republicans in office will get us back on the right track. Many of the latter are ready to jump to what our Constitution offers us: an Article V convention.

Gays in West Virginia Can't Legally Live Together
In West Virginia thre is a cohabitation law, which makes it a misdemeanor for unmarried people to "lewdly and lasciviously associate" and live together. This law is being challenged by a lawsuit, filed by the ACLU on behalf of an inmate whose parole was delayed because of his plan to cohabit with his fiance.
Well, I have lewdly and lasciviously associated and lived together with women before I was married. And enjoyed it very much, thank you. And I considered it none of the government's business that I did so. However, I always had the option of marrying who ever I wanted to lewdly and lasciviously associate with.
Since gays are not allowed the same right to marry eachother that I have, this cohabitation law seems to clearly discriminate against gays, preventing them from lewdly and lasciviously associating with eachother legally.
But really, the fundamental question here is what business is it of the government to care who lewdly and lasciviously associates with who? When will we get the governmemt out of our bedrooms? Oh, yeah. When we get rid of Republican control over our government.

Separation of Church and State
Americans United for Separation of Church and State and The Interfaith Alliance Foundation have combined forces to encourage all Americans to put "First Freedom First" -- www.firstfreedomfirst.org
As James Madison circulated his Memorial and Remonstrance with petitions to gather support for Thomas Jefferson's Act for Establishing Religious Freedom, the First Freedom First organization is circulating a petition to get signatures from citizens who are interested in safeguarding separation of church and state and preserving religious liberty for all Americans.
I encourage all freedom-loving Americans to sign the petition, tell your friends, encourage them to sign it, and host a house party to discuss this issue.

Hurrah! The campaign put by the ACLU, People for the American Way, Progressive Majory and other progressive and civil liberties organizations has paid off.
These are the true patriots that work hard to save the integrity of the US Constitution. Please join me in a round of applause.
"America prides itself on tolerance and acceptance; it is essential that we not amend our founding document to allow censorship, even when the speech in question is reprehensible"
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, June 27, 2006WASHINGTON - The American Civil Liberties Union today applauded the Senate for rejecting a proposed Constitutional amendment to ban flag "desecration." The amendment, S.J. Res. 12, fell one vote short of the two-thirds majority required for passage.
"The Senate came close to torching our constitution, but luckily it came through unscathed," said Caroline Fredrickson, Director of the ACLU Washington Legislative Office. "We applaud those brave Senators who stood up for the First Amendment and rejected this damaging and needless amendment.

Let's welcome Shiloh, Brangelina's baby girl!

Forget about the current immigration bill approved by the Senate but loathed by Congressional Republicans.
Forget about the political merry-go-round of Republicans defending corrupt Democrats because they think their arrest was unconstitutional.
Forget about the stupidity about English-only legislation while the United States still hasn't figured out what to do with their Spanish-speaking colony.
Forget about the Soul Patrol voter turn out or Duke's soulless women Lacrosse team.
Forget about chaos in East Timor or the Earthquake that shook Indonesia.
All I care about is Brangelina's new baby girl:
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have welcomed a baby girl, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, a rep for the couple confirms exclusively to PEOPLE.
The child was born on May 27, at night, in the African country of Namibia.
Oh and that Britney may have kicked KFed to the curb.
Oh and that Gwen Stafani hollabacked a baby boy.
Life is too short to be depressed and ranting and raving all the time.
