US Supreme Court

OPEN POLL: Reasons why anybody (including "liberals") would want to put una mujer in her place

What's this poll about?:

I don't know anything about Sonia Sotomayor's record but am not going to lie : some of the harshest and most despicable bigotry I've had to endure as a Puerto Rican black woman online has come from so-called liberal/progressive/leftist allies. It's why I find Jeffrey Rosen's hit job in The Case Against Sotomayor right on target. I've been there, done that.

So let's see which is the most popular put-down used against you or any of your Latina amigas.

Dennis Kucinich on the US Constitution

"Don't leave home without it."

Awesome!

I have to say, Dennis Kucinich is one of the nicest, most authentic politicians I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He's the real deal as a progressive who, quite honestly, I'd rather have in Congress, the Senate or Supreme Court, not so much as President. He's too forthright to be President.

And yes, I'd love to see Congressman Kucinich in the Supreme Court. That would win Obama and the Democrats progessive credentials back with a vengeance.

Kucinich for Supreme Court Justice!

Does the Supreme Court hate working class women?

In LEDBETTER v. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO, the Supreme Court makes it almost impossible for workers who already are paid inequitably to sue for pay discrimination because, as Scalito wrote, "We have previously held that the time for filing a charge of employment discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) begins when the discriminatory act occurs [PDF]". Meaning that, if you find out years later (like most people) that you were paid less or passed by for promotions, you are bound by statutes of limitation and thus cannot sue an employer for discrimination retroactively if it is beyond the 180 to 300 days from the time that the discrimination occurred.

QUOTES

"We all agree that neither the Government nor political parties ought to interfere with religious sects. It is equally true that religious sects ought not to interfere with the Government or with political parties. We believe that the cause of good government and the cause of religion suffer by all such interference."

— -- Rutherford B. Hayes
