Classic-vintage bleeding-heart liberal lefty political PITA and still proud of it. ... and a proud member for 4 years 9 weeks

I've spent my entire adult life working in any & all aspects of professional show bidniss. Done there, been that, lived there, done them, have the t-shirt. So what. Big deal. A confluence of fates and family ties have left me currently residing in a small city on the edge of a great lake. Life here in the center of the North Coast is almost every bit as much -- while still being surprisingly much less -- provincial and annoying as I expected it to be. The people are real, the work is honest, and every now and again I actually enjoy being here. On the other hand, I am really looking forward to moving back to where it's warm all the time. Preferably by, oh, next weekend or so.

My Latest Post:

6 years in, and a 40-year flashback

As has been widely noted, this past week marked the fifth anniversary of the Bush administration's unethical, immoral, and unwinnable war in Iraq. As the war enters its sixth bloody year, no end appears in sight. The fragile, fractious political situation in Iraq is no better now than it ever was. The public infrastructure is still shattered, with such basic necessities as electricity and potable water still widely unavailable in many regions of the country for more than a few hours a day. The so-called surge is stalled and its tenuous successes are failing to take hold. Everyday violence is still omnipresent, and the 3,000-year-old civilization of Iraq is still in shattered ruins. By any measure, George Bush's ill-advised Iraq adventure is an unqualified disaster.

QUOTES

The quality of being genuine is hard to convey, and deciding who should be president based solely on that basis can lead to disaster; you need brains and an ability to go with the flow as well. But voters know a phony above all and Romney came off as one from the get-go. Over the last decade he had changed his views in a rightward direction on so many issues to suit what he thought he needed to win the GOP nomination that he ended up standing for nothing but his own ambition.

It's no accident that the GOP race is down to three men who are clear about who they are: McCain, Huckabee and, yes, Ron Paul.
